GOALS
One of our goals is to get the words LEAP DAY in ink on the calendar,
every February 29. You'll see days
noted in February like Groundhog Day, Valentine's Day, Presidents Day,
etc.In a Leap Year the box
for February 29 usually lacks the words LEAP DAY. That is what
February 29 is.
PRECISION
We agree that if the words were there to remind people then they
wouldn't get so upset over it. They'd be
aware of it and plan accordingly.
Leap
Day is more important than Groundhog Day. If it were not for that extra
day eventually our seasons
would not line up with the calendar
BIRTH
DATE ISSUES
Through the Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies we are able to meet
others who can relate to the same
birthday issues we face, and so much more.
Sometimes we have no choice but to input a different date
for our birthday than the one we were born
on.
This is because the computer program,
or website, is not prepared for Leap Year and February 29.
Leap Day happens every four years, with
exceptions, and has been for two millennium. Our technology
must catch up to the calendar in order for a smooth ride on this planet
DRIVERS LICENSE ISSUES
Some
of our members have a different birth date on their drivers license
than what is on their birth certificate.
That is illegal isn't it?
Yet our government agencies throughout the
United States of America continue to
force some of us to choose
February 28 or March 1 for our expiration
date.
The
expiration date is to be the same date as our birth. It is important
they account for that. Leap Years
have been happening since 46 BC, and this is 2008, we think it's time
to adjust for Leap Day.
Some
of our members have, or had, a date that doesn't even exist, like
February 29, 1986. That is so illegal
and yet they opt for that rather than adjust for the quadrennial date
since it's going to be keep happening
every four years!
A
WAY OUT
One choice the DMV's of America can make is to allow Leap Day babies to
have a license that is good until
their next birthday OR the one after that? If the state has a 4 year
limit and it's 2006, don't give them a license
for 2 years, simply extend it to 2012. Why not? Wouldn't that be better
than a date that is not even their birth
date? This is a legal document right?
BIRTH
CERTIFICATE ISSUES
It is not as common place as in the
past, however, parents of Leap Day babies are still offered, sometimes
strongly encouraged, to put February 28 or March 1 on their new baby's
birth certificate. There are people
who know they were born on February 29 because family and friends were
there and confirm this. But their
birth certificate has a different date on it.
That
is so wrong and must stop.
OUR
PLIGHT
Please, contact us, or write about our plight. We do not want future
generations of Leap Day babies to
experience these unnecessary challenges the system has, just because
they refuse to recognize a date
that's been happening for over 2000 years. Yes, two thousand! How many
more will it take?
