The Honor Roll was launched in
April, 1997, with the sole purpose of celebrating people born on Leap
Year Day. Since then 1000's have joined the ranks of the
honored.

Leap Year Day 2008 -- HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU AND TO US!
There are many Leap Day events going on
around the world today, better join the fun before it's too late.
Music
To Leap For -- 2/29 - unplugged
San Diego
band Rookie
Card wrote our anthem "2/29". We have a sample in
our player,
or hear all of it again at MySpace,
or just buy it. It's
definitely worth it! The song has it's own web page (scroll down to see
Raenell's comments
there -- so true).
Bill Cane wrote some lovely
swing era music about Leap Day. Bill was in his 90's when he recorded
these songs, and his family have very generously given these
tunes to
the Honor Society. Listen to them in the player in the left side bar.
Bill's writings
about these songs are preserved at archive.org.
If
you have music to leap for that you'd like to see on this play list,
please let us
know!
It's bad that people
get our
birthday wrong, but we still want our Leap Year, don't we??? Decide for
yourself -- here's a video from Wesley Weasel -- we think Wesley is trying to weasel Leap Day away from us, and we urge you to leave comments on the website about how you feel about this!
Happy Birthday
to Syd LDB #6632 turning 100 this year
-- here's a
toast to your 25th birthday! Twenty five is just not enough birthdays... We hope you will see many more Leap Days!

Why We Are
Special
Your
chance of being born on Leap Year Day is about 1 in 1461*. Put
another way, only 0.0684% of the world's population are Leapers. The
table to the right shows how few of us there are.
Over 6000
Leapers have joined
the ranks of the honored -- we have members from all over the world. If
you are born on Leap Day, please don't hesitate to join us and glow in the honor you
deserve.
If
you're not born on Leap Year Day but want to play anyway... send us
email, tell us why!
* Some dispute this, see below for details.
So when do you celebrate,
anyway?
The
question we love to hate... Are you a strict
Februarian? Do you celebrate on the last day of
February, because that's when you were born??? We have found most
Leapers celebrate in February, but there are some die hard partiers
among the honored that celebrate on every day possible. (Thanks to
Kevin Kennelly LDB #14, 1956, who invented the term 'strict
Februarian').
Things We
Care About
We hate when the internet says no to Leap Day.
A
while back we
reported that both YouTube and Borders Books said no to Leapers (by
rejecting applications
from people born on Leap Day). To their credit, they have both fixed
this bug in less
than a month. Three cheers for Leaper
calendar activism.
If
Ground
Hog Day is on the
calendar, why not Leap Year Day? People may finally become Leap Year
Day aware, and the world will be a better place for Leapers. Leap Year
Day is the
world's extra day... it deserves a lot more attention then it gets.
We
want the
words Leap Year Day
on the calendar, as in "February 29 -- Leap Year
Day". Get involved... write to government officials requesting
Leap
Year Day be
proclaimed a holiday; and call calendar publishers to get them to
adorn
the little square for February 29th.
We
operate The LEAP
THIS Shop with Leap Year Day awareness paraphernalia such as
T-shirts, and novelty items, custom designed by our own Chief Leaper,
Raenell. In addition to helping us operate this site, you can do your
part to raise
global Leap Day awareness.
Say Something
We
get many new members each month, and some get really creative with
their comments. Read some cool comments in our Honor Roll hall of fame.
If
you are a Leaper, there's space on the web for you... right here on the
Honor Society Web Site... don't be shy... send us
something to publish.

What
is the chance of being born on a Leap Day? There are 97 Leap Days every 400 years, putting the
chance that any day in all of time is a Leap Day at 1 in
1506. However, most people don't even live to see 100 years.
This century has a Leap Day every 4 years, so we are in the middle of a
196 year period where the odds are much improved. Unless you were alive
before 1901, or, unless you expect to be alive after 2097, during your
lifetime, you will enjoy a Leap Day once every 1461 days.
